Open House and beyond

September 28th, 2007

Welcome to my site and welcome back to another great school year. It has been wonderful catching up with all my students and meeting new ones these last few weeks. It is hard to believe that we are already through the first month of school!

In fact, Open House is next Thursday, October 4th. I hope that I will see many of you there. We will have lots of fabulous student artwork up for you to see that night and it will be a great opportunity for my students to show you what we are doing in art class this year.

Currently I still have last year’s art show featured in the galleries here on my site. However, I have already begun to photograph new artwork for this year, so I will be removing the art show soon after Open House to begin displaying new masterpieces. I will add new photographs as we finish projects throughout the year in every grade, so please stop back often to this site to see what’s new.

Thank you for visiting my site and for all of your support, I hope to see you at Open House next Thursday!

Summer Greetings

July 23rd, 2007

Hello to all of my students and their families and friends who have been visiting my web page to see the virtual art show this summer. I hope you have been enjoying the art show; I was really impressed with everyones’ work as I put the show together. I will leave the art show up for the rest of the summer and for the first few weeks of the new school year. Then I will take it down and begin to replace it with new work as each grade finishes a project.

I can’t believe that we will be starting a new school year in just a few short weeks - summer goes too fast doesn’t it? However, I am looking forward to seeing all of my students back again this fall and meeting our new students. I have spent some of my summer researching new lesson ideas so get ready for another fun-filled year in the art room at Dutch Ridge and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you soon!

Art Show Message

May 29th, 2007

As we close in on the end of another terrific year here at Dutch Ridge Elementary, it is time to once again fill the galleries with all of the students’ fabulous artwork. We are making some changes and the section is under construction, but be sure to check back next week as much of the artwork should be loaded and the html changes made! It has been such a pleasure to work with all of my students this year and I think you will agree with me when I say that their artwork just keeps on getting better and better every year!

Welcome to my site!

April 4th, 2006

Welcome to the art room at Dutch Ridge Elementary, a part of the Beaver Area School District. The visual arts program at Dutch Ridge Elementary School is a state and national standards based program with the art lessons often connecting to the students’ learning in their regular classrooms. The visual arts curriculum at Dutch Ridge provides our students with many opportunities to explore their artistic abilities in various media and methods while learning about many different artists and artistic periods.

There are art enrichment opportunities during the regular school day for both the academically and the artistically talented students in all grade levels. An after school program with a community service component was added to the programs offered by the visual arts department here at Dutch Ridge last year; we hope to expand it this year to provide even more opportunities for our students.

The visual arts program at Dutch Ridge was awarded three grants last year. The Beaver Area Educational Trust funded a grant that provided the materials for the first grade to study Aboriginal art and for the sixth grade to study Latin American art forms. The Beaver Area Educational Trust also funded a grant for the third, fourth and fifth grades to study various folk arts. The Beaver County Educational Trust funded a joint grant with the South Side Area School District that had the fifth grades at Dutch Ridge and South Side Elementary Schools learning about Beaver County history. The students designed and created a clay tile mosaic depicting the 10 most historically significant landmarks in Beaver County based upon their learning, which the students will present to the county commissioners this fall for permanent display in a county building. The students worked collaboratively via technology and you can track their progress at the following web site: http://historyinclay.com Hopefully, I will be fortunate enough to be awarded grants again this year to continue to change and expand the art opportunities and lessons offered to my students here at Dutch Ridge Elementary.

The visual arts department at Dutch Ridge will be presenting an art show of all our students’ work this spring in conjunction with the sixth grade play. Please be sure to look for further information and plan to attend; our students put on quite an art show and play every year! In the meantime, be sure to check back frequently to this site this year as I will be posting pictures of students artwork in the galleries as we finish every project that we do this year.

Thank you again for visiting the Dutch Ridge Elementary art room website, I hope everyone has a wonderful 2006-2007 school year!
